house painting tips

First and foremost, you need to ensure you have prepared the surface to be painted properly. Not only will this provide a better finish but will also ensure that the paint sticks properly to the surface without flaking. Take some 80 grit sandpaper and run it over the wall or floor and you will remove the little blemishes and flaking paint. Run the sandpaper over the surface as many times as necessary until your happy that the wall is ready to be painted.

Next, make sure you wash the wall or surface areas BEFORE painting. This will get rid of the dust caused by sanding. Skipping this step is a big no no! as the dust particles will cause a bubbling effect and result in a poor finish that is likely to peel. We recommend sugar soap for this part as this will remove the dust and clean the wall at the same time. Remember to let the wall DRY thoroughly over night before painting!

Next your ready to paint! By now you should have a good idea of what you want to do with the room (and brought the paint). Use a reputable paint dealer or hardware store and dont settle for cheap paint, it doesnt last! But be sure to do your ceilings first as the paint might splatter onto the walls. If this happens, simply was the wall again, allow it to dry and then your ready to paint your walls.

Most walls will require 2 coats of paint to avoid looking patchy. Use a larger brush or roller for even distribution of the paint across the surface and to save time on the job. Load up your roller by covering evenly in paint but dont over do it. THATS IT! you are now a painting professional! Good luck, hope you enjoyed the tips!
